To better appreciate this book, it is of great help to have a grasp of who the author is and under what context she writes of this opus. Roxsane K. Tiernan is an energetic, hardworking, compulsive, seventy-seven year old, exceptional artist of this postmodern times. She is an international educator who travels to Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and Mexico. Her travels are depicted not in the pictures that she had taken but in her paintings that go along with corresponding life learnings which she altogether expresses in poems. It can be deduced that the beauty of her paintings and the medium she uses in doing them are made more outstanding by being expressions of the culture and a carrier of the people’s way of life therein. Additionally, wherever she travels she soaks up local color, customs, and cultural influences. As can be gleaned, this cross-cultural experiences rightly blend with her lively imagination. The intention is not to impose upon us her learnings but only to expose us to an appreciation of the beauty of life through art and consequently create our own realizations from them. As an artist, her genius is that she does not lead us to simply follow or unthinkingly accept her ways of appreciating life, but she allows us to be more creative and colorful in our efforts to a meaningful existence. Equally important is that she envisions for us to realize that one needs to go out and appreciate life through diversified perspectives. There can be no one-sided reality of life. No single idea can ever capture what life is and that of its beauty and wonder. Hence, the author’s artistic prowess allows us to open our minds to possibilities, to broader horizons of meaning and not of necessities that limit and stagnate us. To avoid the inauthenticities of life, the author underscores the infinitives, to arouse, to excite, to inspire in both her poems and paintings as well. Let us go over significant lines of her poems that highlight this supposed dynamic and meaningful human existence.
